Alec Steele – Blacksmith and YouTuber
A year on from my first meeting, it seemed only fitting to reach out to Alec and see if he as interested in another photoshoot... He was!
A lot has changed for Alec... a new workshop, new staff, new equipment, but the quality of his content has remained at the same high levels as before. Growing a business on YouTube is no easy task, nor is amassing the fan base that Alec now has (at the time of writing, there are now 877,000 subscribers).
There is now merchandise, more emphasis on experimentation, and a host of interesting collaborations with other YouTubers. Whilst Alec may no longer offer teaching classes, the level of content he produces is more than enough to learn from for those still interested in the craft, however the videos he creates are entertaining enough that even those with no interest in hitting hot metal can enjoy the show.
Whilst still true to his roots, Alec is more a producer and presenter rather than just a Blacksmith. It's been interesting to watch the content change and evolve as Alec himself has matured, now delivering the quality content that YouTube so desperately needs. The future is certainly bright for Mr. Steele, and I for one am honored to have been witness to the path he has taken.
