If I had the cash: Kawasaki ZZR 1400

Is 207bhp enough?

‘If I had the cash’ is a monthly feature on the blog where we look at a motorcycle I would buy if I had the means necessary. What would you buy if you had an endless supply of cash burning a hole in your wallet?

Most people purchase a motorcycle for the sole purpose of going fast, and this months ‘If I had the cash’ certainly fulfils that desire.

The Kawasaki ZZR 1400 was revised back in 2016, however it managed to retain its unique character despite being modified to comply with Euro4 regulations.

At full throttle the ram-air effect pushes the engine to a gut wrenching 207bhp. 0-60mph is covered in just 2.5 seconds, with the top speed limited to a comical 186mph. Take the ZZR to the strip and you can expect times of 9.7 seconds, achieving 147mph in just 1/4 a mile.

Traction control and ABS are welcome, as with this much power you will certainly need them. Don’t be mistaken for thinking this is just a straight line rocket, the ZZR also handles pretty well. Cornering is taken care of courtesy of Ohlins, and Brembo have the anchors sorted.

Whilst not cheap, costing £14,499 new, used models can be picked up for as little as £5000. The Kawasaki ZZR 1400 is definitely not for novice riders, however more experienced riders looking to scare themselves need look no further.
